Menopause is indeed a crucial milestone… and can bring with it unpleasant and unexpected symptoms. As many as 75% of women going through menopause, have a troublesome experience, which unfortunately can have a negative effect on their quality of life. What Is Menopause?

Menopause is a period in a woman’s life when the function of the ovaries gradually fades away.

During this process, hormones and metabolism are rebuilt. This rearrangement affects both behavior and health, and its effects change the entire body.

Estrogen is responsible for the production of vaginal secretions, which provides lubrication, as well as the thickness of the vaginal wall. The attitude of society towards women in menopause is very dependent on their place of residence. In Islamic regions, the social status of women with the onset of menopause increases, but areas with primary Western culture, especially in Russia, there is a marked negative perception of menopause: a culturally fixed opinion about the shamefulness of menopause, the loss by women in the climax of sexual attractiveness, and unjustified pity for them.

In these parts of the world, you are more likely to hear people tell jokes about people experiencing menopause, rather than support them, which cannot but be depressing. This is especially true for working relationships. So it is futile for women going through menopause to look for sympathy with colleagues. Family and friends, at work, will provide help but it is essential to be calm, professional and self-confident, if only not to lose it. Family members should be informed that sometimes the behavior of a mother and wife can change; sometimes she does not feel very well and needs care. Or at least the opportunity to be alone.

When menopause starts too early it can result in depression. For many people, the word “menopause” is perceived as a synonym for the word “old age.”

Meanwhile, from the time of menopause to the state of health that characterizes old age, is about 30 – 40 years apart. Foreign gynecologists are well aware of the phenomenon of menopause negation. Even patients belonging to the age group of the typical onset of menopause, refuse to recognize the fact of changes occurring with their body. It is psychologically easier for them to ignore the signs of menopause, to attribute them to pregnancy, overwork, even cancer. Some 300 years ago, the average life expectancy of a woman was about 35–40 years. Now – much more. The current society perceives aging instead not as an inevitable end of life, but as a long period of deprivation and rejection of the joys of life. It is much easier to diligently ignore changes in oneself than to think about how to preserve the former quality of life with their account.

Controlling & Managing Menopause Has It’s Price

Women who deny their real state are much more likely to suffer from self-doubt and depression.

Besides, the menopause goes harder for them, since by doing so they deny and medicamental methods of correction of their condition. Meanwhile, the International Menopause Society recommends the beginning of HRT in the early period of menopause, up to 60 years. Timely initiated therapy relieves the condition of both the soul and the body. But everything has its price, and HRT is no exception.

First, only a doctor can prescribe a course of hormonal treatment: the doses of the drugs and their combination are individual. The second feature that is worth considering (after all, menopause is not a reason to stop watching yourself) is weight gain. The need for energy decreases with age, and even a moderate woman can increase her weight with the onset of menopause. Many women who started the course of HRT noticed that their weight increased by another 1-2 kg. But specialists in the treatment of menopause believe that this increase is temporary, for 2-3 months. It has the advantages namely improves skin tone.

However, if the weight has increased much more than 3 kg, the reasons should be sought not in hormones, but in the diet. Doctors have developed recommendations in this area:

  • Split meals, 5-6 times a day
  • More liquid, up to 1.5-2 liters

Each meal should combine fruits and vegetables with whole grain products (muesli, flakes, cereals). The more fruits and vegetables in all kinds – the better.

Do not overdo it with fats: from daily calories to their share should be a maximum of 3%. Fats should be mostly vegetable. So, avocado is a beautiful fruit if you are careful eating.

The share of proteins should be about 15% of daily calories, and preference should be given to those that are easily digested. Ideal – dairy, fermented dairy food and seafood, soybeans, eggs, lean meats. Particular attention should be paid to the flesh of a rabbit.

In addition to proper nutrition and HRT, there are techniques that alleviate the general condition and reduce the severity of menopause symptoms, the most unpleasant of which are hot flashes. But these methods require work on themselves.

How To Manage Hot Flashes

First, you need to determine what provokes hot flashes. Most often, it is caffeine and alcohol intake, stress, overheating and overcooling, overeating, but different factors are also possible. Some of them can be eliminated by changing the mode of life, some – by yoga, meditation, prayer, solitude or other methods that help calm down. It is worth avoiding wearing overly tight, constraining clothing and always paying attention to what it is made of: when menopause sweating is frequent, pure synthetics is not the best choice in this situation. Good helpers are antiperspirants, gentle face and body wipe.

Regular and rational physical activity can reduce the production of certain hormones. So daily fitness classes can also help.

HRT reduces the frequency of tides, supports the development of vaginal secretions. If the most commonly prescribed therapy based on estrogen is not suitable, then there are alternatives based on progestin and some other drugs.

Regular intake of vitamin E is also able to alleviate the condition during menopause. However, it is important not to overdo it: hypervitaminosis does not improve health, and vitamin E can accumulate in the body.

A suitable method recommended by doctors is diaphragmatic breathing. According to studies, it reduces the frequency of hot flashes. It is recommended to perform exercises 2-3 times a day for 15–20 minutes.

Do Not Forget To Have Sex!

Regular sex among couples may not be able to delay the onset of menopause, but it makes the tides rarer, mostly because it boosts confidence and gives her the feeling of being desired. This often affects her character at the same time making her softer, tender, and calmer. It is also worthy of note that, during menopause and after it, the sensitivity of the clitoris is not disturbed at all, and studies of the sexuality of older women have shown that they experience orgasm even at the age of ninety, and their sensations are broader than in adolescence. Lack of natural lubrication is easily replenished with synthetic lubricant.


Although in every woman’s life, menopause is a unique phenomenon, it is entirely natural and does not bypass any of us. Moreover, it is rumored that men have their own, male, menopause.

The facts are as follows: it is easiest to survive menopause, having something that allows one to be distracted from intense self-observation. And yet – not so few lucky women whose menopause passes easily and seamlessly.

Fortunately, it is an ill wind that blows nobody good. A climax is no exception. Its main advantage – it is not forever, it will end – and life will settle into a groove, though different from what it was before menopause. In a certain sense, this adolescence is “the opposite.” The second plus is the long years of sexual life without the risk of unexpectedly becoming pregnant – no latex and daily pills! The third one is no menstruation, premenstrual, menstrual and postmenstrual syndromes, tampons, pads, and monthly mood swings are also in the past.
